Self-guided Truffle hunt Istria

Start early morning from Zagreb. You have a bit less than 3 hours drive, so plan your trip accordingly. Around 11 AM you arrive to truffle tasting and hunting destination. You will be welcomed with strong alcoholic drink – typical for Croatia – and locally homemade: biska (mistletoe rakija!), medica (honey liqueur), višnja (sour cherry liqueur). The certified expert truffle hunter will explain you everything about truffles, their history, how they are traditionally in Istria, how do you search for truffles and you will meet the dogs that are trained for searching truffles. After the explanation you will try all kind of specialities made of truffles: 3 kinds of Istria truffle cheese, truffle sausages, truffle spread, truffle honey, truffle oil and you will be able to observe – and if you wold like – to be part of making big egg omelette full of fresh truffles “fritaja”. With this, you can taste locally made wine Teran and Malvazija. After tasting all this – there is of course chance for shopping! Then follow dog specially trained for truffle hunt to the nearby forest – good luck in searching! After exploring truffle-hunting techniques, it is time to move on to next small city in Istria – Hum – famous as “the smallest city in the world”! On your way you can visit also the Glagolitic alley, telling you a bit more about Croatian history. After a short walk to, and through Hum, go to local restaurant for late lunch / dinner and try some more Istrian culinary specialities, before heading back to Zagreb!

Start from Zagreb, and spend a full day in Istria! Learn all about truffles and search for one yourself in the local forest with a trained dog. Enjoy tasting truffles, truffle specialties and bring some home!
After truffle hunting have a short walk through Glagolitic alley and visit to the smallest city in world – Hum. After a walk in Hum head to cute local tavern for delicious local lunch! Full of experiences return to Zagreb at evening!

Dugi otok and Telašćica nature park

Starting from Zadar (or Sali on Dugi otok). Have a day out of the city, on a peaceful island Dugi otok. Only a short fast boat ride away, you begin your visit to Dugi otok in a magical Sali. From Sali you drive through an island with your friendly guide to the entrance of Nature Park Telašćica. Here you have a free time to visit a view point of magnificent cliffs steep above the sea! Locally called “Stene”. Afterwards you walk to the lake “Mir” (Peace), the unique salty lake inside an island. Depending on your wishes capabilities, you can walk further around the lake, or return back to your transfer and to Sali to have a lunch and swim or relax time before your sunset boarding to boat back to Zadar.

At morning, buy tickets and find your fast boat at Zadar central city harbour (time tables vary on Sunday and National Holiday!). Boat will take you to Dugi otok, place called Sali. Here your local guide – transfer will wait for you, and you will agree the time to start and finish the Telašćica visit. You will buy from him entrance tickets to NP Telašćica, and he will advise you about best place for a lunch and beach depending on your preferences. After short transfer to Nature Park entrance, you have time on your own to visit the magnificent salty lake called “Mir”, walk around and visit viewpoints to breath-taking cliffs and views to National Park Kornati, the most beautiful National Park in Croatia, full of small islands. After the relaxing Telašćica hike, your guide will transfer you back to Sali where you can have lunch/dinner, a swim on the beach and board the boat that will take you back to Zadar.

 Starting from famous Dubrovnik, with stone city walls, you run away from the crowds on island Hvar. Here you stay in peaceful Stari Grad, hike to Velo Grablje, mystic old village built of stone houses! In Stari Grad, your hosts prepare a dinner in small bay Veli Dolac – your table and the sea with top Croatian delicacies! Next, you move to Zadar, and from here, you visit fantastic Dugi otok (long island) and nature park Telašćica, where you find out about salt lake incorporated in the island, and on the other side steep cliffs to the sea! There are also stunning views on National Park Kornati and cute little town Sali! In Zadar you have a walk on the scaled solar system and watch the most beautiful sunset with a play of a sea organ! Magic! Then you hike UNESCO site National Park Plitivce lakes and sleep in a city from fairitale – Ogulin. Next you hike most beautiful trail between Bijele and Samarske stijene, Vihoraški trail! Dubrovnik, by the locals called also “Grad” meaning “the City” is famous for its walls that surround the city. After a must-have walk around the walls, you can feel the city inside, walk the stone streets, drink from fountain, squeeze through tiny narrow streets or have a lunch in one of them. Find “Buža” (Eng. Small hole) bar and beach or go above the city with cable car. Rent-a-car pickup and self-driving from Dubrovnik, over ferry (Drvenik – Sućuraj) to Stari Grad on island Hvar (4h, 191km). Passing BIH border in Neum might cause some delays. Relax and walk in Stari Grad by the sea, depending on arrival time.

Today start early to catch a speedboat (8:00) to Sali, Dugi otok (Long island). Boat ride goes from Zadar centre, directly to Dugi otok, between two islands Pašman and Ugljan and under the famous bridge “Ždrelac” connecting them. Small city where boat stops – Sali has its special peaceful magic. Here you will meet the transfer to Telašćica Nature park. Nature Park Telašćica has special sea-cliffs (called locally “Stene”) and salt lake “Mir” (Peace), plus extra nice view on National Park Kornati.

After breakfast, drive to National Park Plitvice, UNESCO protected nature site. After entering, a trail will lead you to the big waterfall, and back, and then further to the other part of the lakes where you board the boat when you are tired you catch small train to drive you back. Another 1:40 min drive will take you to magical small city Ogulin. Here enjoy the dinner in hotels restaurant, and arrange picnic packing for tomorrow all-day trekking! (B)

After early breakfast, at 8:00 start of 50 min drive to the start of the trail. Your guide will meet you in hotel. We carry food and water (2l min) for all day. We will combine 2 cars for less walking on our way back.
Trail starts easy with 1:30 h hike to Bijele stijene (White rocks), from where first great view is shown. Then we follow wild, green and magic Vihoraški trail that takes us next 4-6h depending on our capabilities. Picnic lunch during the trekking, and snacks when we have low energy feeling. Vihoraški trail is the wildest and the most beautiful trail in Croatia. Trail goes between the rocks, through narrow passages in the rocks, and includes a lot of scrambling – climbing short distances on the rocky area.
When not on rocks, trail goes through magic green meadows and valleys with astonishing views on surrounding shining white rocks and blue sky. This is true wilderness, with a high chance to see a snake or some other wild animal. Final destination of this magic wild trek is romantic shelter located in the rock, very special and unique.
Full of experiences but tired you return to hotel for a dinner and sleep. (B)

Biokovo Sunset Hike - Self Guided

Run away from the crowds on the beach and enter the history on mountain Biokovo, where wild plants grow, wild goats jump on cliffs and people plant their gardens still in the bottom of big sinkholes!

Drive from Podgora/Tučepi/Makarska or Baška Voda to the mountain hut under the peak Vošac on NP Biokovo. On your way, stop on the viewpoint and start your 30 minutes hike up to viewpoint Štrbina and up to mountain hut Vošac. Here end the day with one of the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see! When the sun goes down, celebrate another great day and slowly go back to car. Drive back to your starting point.

Neretva Photo Safari and Hidden Sandy Beach

Designed for and travelled by BS and family! A Self-guided culinary tour

Starting from Makarska riviera and heading even more south, in sunny valley of Neretva river! Neretva is famous for interesting wildlife, hidden in its swampy delta. Local specialities include famous eel goulash and frogs, and if you are not fan of frogs - always great cohice - peka (lamb or veal under the bell)! Neretva is a river to have a boat ride on, observe birds and other local wildlife have great meal.
As a contrast of this hot part of Croatia River Neretva, is fresh and cold to swim in! That is the reason that we start a tour with a visit to a hidden, and most beautiful sandy beach in Croatia! Having a bath in this to extraordinary long sandbar, in shallow water and small sand is special also because from one side of sandbar is Neretva river, and other side is sea!

At morning, start from Makarska riviera, after 1h drive you arrive at hidden sandy beach. Relax and enjoy sandy beach with and option of kite surfing (prior notice needed!).
Around noon, further 30min drive to Vid and boarding old wooden boat “Neretvanska lada” where your friendly host will greet you with local specialties, Dalmatian ham and cheese and strong alcoholic drink “Rakija”.
Your trip continues with a boat ride - and photo safari - through swampy area of Neretva, where there is a chance to observe birds and other wildlife, and dip your hands to cold river for refreshment.
After a boat ride, your tasty local speciality lunch waits for you just near the shore of river. After lunch, there is an option for you to visit Narona archaeological museum or return to starting point.
